Term 1, 2024. We were blessed to have Mr Ron Dick from the WA Opera Company stay with us for a week to work with the students interested in pursuing a musical pathway by sharing his journey in the industry.
It has been a fantastic first week of Term 2 in the Mingamia Junior class with all the students attending every day. In our learning, we have been focusing on our handwriting and practising the formation of letters. In reading, we are learning to respond to stories, identifying our favourite part of the story and providing a reason. As part of the Billy Goat Gruff story, we completed a retell using finger puppets. We also finished our first STEM activity by designing and building a bridge using pop-sticks, straws and pipe-cleaners. In maths, we are learning time. The students are enjoying watching the clock and recreating the time on the clock on their desk. Our focus is on o’clock and half past. In music, we have been learning the Ukulele and have started on the jembe drums. We are preparing for assembly and hope to have a Mingamia band ready in the next couple of weeks for our performance. A few fun activities have been designing an AFL jumper as part of the WA Football competition, cooking in the Home Ec room, and washing our chairs ready for the term.
I have really enjoyed getting to know everyone here and thankyou for making me feel so welcome. Thankyou to the team for all your support. It really is a lovely community to be in. On a personal note, I have enjoyed the spectacular sunrises and sunsets each day. What a beautiful part of the country!
